Delivery Plan
The delivery of the highway works is carefully planned in stages to minimize disruption while ensuring steady progress. Each stage focuses on preparing, implementing, and completing key infrastructure improvements to support the regeneration project.

Stage 1: Preparatory Works (Now to Mid 2025)
- The Cadent gas main works on West Hendon Broadway are now complete.
- We have replaced the traffic lights at the Station Road junction with high-tech temporary systems to maintain traffic flow.
- We will complete the widening of Station Road and West Hendon Broadway near the junction.
- We will reconfigure Wilberforce Road and Herbert Road for the new one-way system.
- Works will pause for the Christmas period, leaving Station Road in a safe condition.
- Temporary traffic lights will remain operational during this time.
Traffic Switch (Mid 2025)
- The new traffic lights at Station Road will be switched on, and Station Road will open to two-way traffic.
- The direction of travel on Wilberforce Road and Herbert Road will be reversed.
- Perryfield Way will be permanently closed to through traffic, with specific access retained for premises.
Stage 2: Final Works (Mid 2025 to Early 2026)
- The remaining work to Station Road will be completed.
- Improvements to West Hendon Broadway between Cool Oak Lane and Garrick Road, with alternating lane closures to facilitate progress.
- Night-time carriageway resurfacing towards the end of the program.
Minimizing Disruption
During the works, temporary closures, diversions, and occasional night work will be necessary. Efforts will be made to:
- Provide advanced warnings of significant disruptions.
- Maintain access for residents and businesses wherever possible.
- This phased approach ensures that the essential highway works are completed efficiently, with minimal impact on the local community, while delivering long-term benefits for the area.
Next Steps
The project team is committed to maintaining clear and open communication as the works progress. We will:
- Publish Traffic Management Orders detailing permanent changes to road operations, including parking restrictions, bus lanes, and one-way systems.
- Official announcement of the permanent stopping up of Perryfield Way as a public highway when the exact date is confirmed.
- There will be further briefings for businesses and residents to address any concerns.
- This project website will be updated and expanded to provide further information.
- Advance notice of the major traffic switch currently scheduled for May 2025.
